Fisher River Cree Nation Income Assistance Pre-Employment Supports Program (Job Readiness Program)

ABOUT

The Fisher River Cree Nation Pre-Employment Supports Program indicates an interest in Income Assistance clients to pursue their job search, to assist individual’s transition from Income Assistance to employment and education.

The Pre-Employment Supports Program offers management, education, life skills, and employment supports to Income Assistance clients who are seeking to gain skills to overcome barriers in areas of employment, training and education. The supports that may entail are; build a resume, Life Skills, WHMIS, Food Handlers, First Aid/CPR, Portfolio Management, Basic Computer training, Work Opportunity programs, job shadowing, Trainings/Teachings etc.

Case Workers will assist the clients move forward in their job search, increase their knowledge, their interview skills, how to access the hidden job market, networking where the jobs are locally, as well as out of the community.

Networking with organizations within the community for additional dollars, and service providers to provide support to clients for any other difficulties that may impact the client’s full participation in the program.

VISION

The overall vision in this position of Pre-Employment Supports Program is for all Fisher River Cree Nation Income Assistance clients to access the skills in their interests in their employment and career goals for a sustainable future.

The Pre-Employment Supports Program values strengths of the Fisher River Cree Nation Income Assistance clients. The Pre-Employment program therefore uses a strength based, empowering approach towards the clients to overcome their barriers in job searching grounded in working towards their goals.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The goals of the Fisher River Cree Nation Income Assistance Pre-Employment Supports Program are to promote:

  • Assisting recipients to achieve their economic and social potential
  • Providing assistance and employment to those recipients in need
  • Moving recipients towards sustainable employment and education
  • Decision making in job searching
  • Willingness to work;
  • Increase job shadowing
  • Sustainable economic future.

The objectives are:

  • Increase Income Assistance clients skills capacity to support their goals in job searching
  • Promote employment and link Income Assistance clients to opportunities;
  • Partnership with other service providers to support the clients;
  • Meet the diverse needs of the clients- including youth, and persons with disabilities, parents in need of their child care and participate facing multiple barriers to employment.
