National Cree Gathering

The Fisher River Cree Nation is honoured to be the host of the National Cree Gathering for 2019. The theme for this year’s gathering came from discussion with the host nation and the Elders Advisory Committee.

The National Cree Gathering began in 1998 and has been held almost every year as a spiritual gathering hosted throughout Cree traditional territory from James Bay, Quebec to British Columbia. On average the gatherings host hundreds to thousands of people that come together to celebrate and honour the Cree language, history, heritage and culture of the people.

The National Cree Gathering operates with a National Cree Working Group comprised of Elders long part of the gathering, who develop the priorities and activities along with the host Nation.

This year’s theme is “Maskēkomowinihk isi minopimatisowinihk” meaning “the Cree good life”.
